MATSUO Castle Ruins (松尾城跡)
Historical | Castle | Exterior
The stone foundational ruins of Matsuo Castle sit atop a hill nestled in the mountains of Koishiwara with a direct line-of-sight view to the peaks on Hikosan. With more than a thousand years of history, the original castle was taken down in 1615 under the One Castle One Country” edict issued by Ieyasu Tokugawa. A perfect location for various outdoor scenes like battles, tented shogun encampment, etc… surrounded by tall cedar trees that give the site an expansive feel on camera, while being accessible by a short 5 min hike through a cedar forest from the parking area below.
