MATSURA HISTORICAL MUSEUM
(松浦史料博物館)
Historical | Interior | Exterior
Situated on a hill side with no phone lines or modern buildings, Matsura House & Historical Museum in Hirado City is the oldest museum in Nagasaki Prefecture. It also has a traditional Japanese Tea House 'Kan'un-tei’ that was added in 1893. With a thatched roof, mud walls and simple interiors representing the zen of tea culture, this beautiful stand-alone tea house is an excellent shooting location. The almost completely open front of the house can accommodate dolly tracks and other heavy gear shooting into the interiors.
Kan'un-tei is a designated Tangible Cultural Asset of Nagasaki Prefecture. The Tea House consists of a small 4-tatami mat area and a 6-tatami mat room, open to the east to offer views of the sea and the historic Hirado Castle. With its legacy, historical authenticity and deep cultural significance, Kan'un-tei is an ideal location for authentic tea ceremony scenes or country home scenes.
